Tezpur: Altogether 89 villages have been affected in floods that hit Sonitpur district as per reports of the last 24 hours. At present, the Brahmaputra at Ganeshghat is flowing 0.62 m above the danger level while the Jiabharali is flowing 0.75 m above the danger level. On the other hand, the Belsiri at Bharasingri is flowing 0.02 m above the danger level.

The Sonitpur district administration, while stepping up rescue and rehabilitation efforts, is working round-the-clock to provide relief material to the flood-affected people. As per reports of the last 24 hours, 14 villages under Naduar revenue circle, 5 villages under Thelamara revenue circle, 41 villages under Tezpur revenue circle and 29 villages under Dhekiajuli revenue circle have been affected in the flood. The total number of affected people in the district is at 1,14,088.

Altogether, 1235.7 hectares of agricultural land is currently under water while total livestock affected is 30,556 (20,095 big and 10,461 small). At present, 29 relief camps and seven relief centres have been set up in the district and a total number of 9,170 people are currently living in these relief camps. So far, 1510.774 quintals of rice, 302.449 quintals of dal, 30.281 quintals of salt along with 1705.53 quintals of cattle feed for animals and 350 tarpaulin sheets have been distributed among the flood-affected people.

As per reports of the last 24 hours, a total of 1,126 persons were evacuated from flood-affected areas in separate operations carried out by teams from the Indian Army, NRDF and SDRF. A total of 12 boats were pressed into service to carry out the rescue operations under Dhekiajuli and Thelamara revenue circles.
