9-year old allegedly raped, accused arrested in Tamulpur

BAKSA: A 9-year old girl was allegedly raped a 44 year- old man named Brajen Kalita of Panshim Jhargaon in Tamulpur. On June 25, the victim was allegedly raped by Brajen Kalita. According to family members, the girl had gone for fishing in a pond with her younger brother. Brajen then allegedly raped the minor girl. The heinous act came to light when the child told her mother about the whole incident later.

The family lodged an FIR at Tamulpur police station on Sunday night. Based on the FIR, Tamulpur police arrested Brajen Kalita the same night and brought him to Tamulpur police station. On getting the news of the incident, Tamulpur subdivisional police officer (SDPO) Rupjyoti Kalita reached Tamulpur police station and investigated the incident. A case under POCSO Act has been registered against the accused Brajen Kalita at Tamulpur police station. On Monday, Brajen was produced before the court of Baksa district judicial magistrate and later sent to judicial custody.
