TEZPUR: Following the declaration of Assam Assembly Election 2021 by the Election Commission of India, the Sonitpur district administration has geared up for smooth conduct of the upcoming Assembly elections in the district in a free and fair manner. Notable here that the polling for the five LACs of the Tezpur election District, viz. 71 Dhekiajuli, 72 Barchala, 73 Tezpur, 74 Rangapara and 75 Sootea LACs will be conducted on March 27.
The total number of voters in Tezpur election district is 9,34,423 out of which 4,72,131 are male, 4,62,276 are female and 13 of the third gender. Stating that out of these 3,512 are service voters, 4460 are PwD electors and 12,227 are senior citizens (above 80 years of age). The District Election Officer informed that due to the prevailing COVID-19 situation, the ECI has issued special guidelines so that all electors above 80 years of age and all PwD voters will be able to cast their vote through postal ballot. Also suspected COVID-19 cases and officials engaged on emergency duty on poll day will also be counted as absentee voters and allowed to avail the postal ballot facility.
Out of a total of 1,324 polling stations in five constituencies, 1,118 main polling stations and 206 auxiliary polling stations have been set up in Tezpur election District.
Altogether 9,100 government employees have been engaged for the elections till date. Meanwhile the 21 flying squads, 30 static surveillance teams, 18 video surveillance teams and 19 anti defacement teams have been keeping close watch to ensure that the code of conduct is not violated in Tezpur election district.
