HAFLONG: The 9th International Yoga Day was observed throughout the district of Dima Hasao on Wednesday with great enthusiasm.

At the Council complex, Chief Executive Member of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council (DHAC) Debolal Gorlosa and his family participated at the Yoga session along with the DHAC chairperson Ranu Langthasa, Executive Members, MACs, and officers of both normal and entrusted departments, clubs, NGOs, health enthusiasts and general public. Principal Secretaries, council secretaries and all officers and staff were also present.

Yoga competition was organized among all the Executive Members and MACs. Executive Member Prajith Hojai was adjudged as first. The CEM announced Rs 25 lakh for construction of a yoga centre in Hajadisa constituency as reward to EM Hojai. Distribution of prizes to the winners of the District-level Yoga Competition under a category of 35 years and above held on June 20, organized by the District Health Society, was also done during the programme.

At NL Daulagupu Sports Complex, State Power, Cooperation, Sports & Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Deputy Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das, Superintendent of Police Mayank Kumar, ADCs, officers and staff of different departments, school teachers and students participated in the yoga session.

MORIGAON: Along with the rest of the world, the 9th International Yoga Day was celebrated with enthusiasm by the Morigaon district administration at Morigaon Police Reserve premises on Wednesday. The 2-hour long Yoga event was organized on the official theme ‘Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’. Deputy Commissioner Devasish Sharma inaugurated the event by lighting the ceremonial lamp in presence of CEO Khitish Ch.Pegu, SP Hemanta Kumar Das, other officials and school students.

DIBRUGARH: Indian Army celebrated the International Day of Yoga on Wednesday with the enthusiastic participation of students, faculty, staff of DPS, Dibrugarh and the officials of the district administration as well.

Essence of Yogic exercises on the health of individuals was brought out by the practitioners and thereafter, a practice session with demonstration of asanas was conducted. Faculty, staff and students enthusiastically participated during the practice sessions to acclimatize the body to Yogic exercises and Yoga. The participants were introduced to Yogasanas, Kapalbharti, Pranayama, Dhyana, Sankalpa and Meditation, as per the common protocol issued by the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India. Prayers were recited before and after the programme.

The gathering was addressed about yoga and benefits of practicing Yoga in everyday life and the potential for customization to suit the individual was highlighted. The Kalaripayattu team of the Madras Regiment presented a demonstration of the ancient martial arts in a complete display of strength and courage incorporating the values of discipline and dedication which are also imbibed by the practice of Yoga.

SIVASAGAR: The NSS Unit of Gargaon College, in collaboration with Eco Club, Yoga Centre, the 49 Assam Naval NCC & 11 Assam Girls NCC, Women Cell of Gargaon College and Patanjali Yoga Samiti, Sivasagar district celebrated the 9th International Yoga Day on Wednesday at the college premises with great enthusiasm.

The function started with a brief introduction of International Yoga Day by Dr Rimjim Borah, NSS programme officer of Gargaon College. After lighting of the ceremonial lamp, the programme was inaugurated by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, renowned academician and Principal of Gargaon College. Dr Mahanta, in his inaugural speech briefly explained the significance of International Yoga Day. He mentioned that Yoga Day is celebrated all over world to raise awareness about the glorious yoga practice of India.

Yoga is an ancient art of India which plays an important role in relaxing the mind and body and boosting people’s immune system.

Dr Chandaditya Gogoi, the Head of the Department of Geology and resource person of this 9th International Yoga Day celebration, demonstrated various yoga positions to more than 200 persons comprising of teachers, non- teaching staff, students, volunteers of National Service Scheme and cadets of NCC.

TEZPUR: The 9th International Day of Yoga was observed by Sonitpur district administration at a programme held at Hillbilly located in Mazgaon, Tezpur.

State Panchayat & Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass was present as chief guest on the occasion. Deputy Commissioner Deba Kumar Mishra, CEO, Zilla Parishad, Karabi Saikia Karan, DDC Gaya Prasad Agarwal, noted social worker Batash Orang, other senior district administration officials were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass spoke about the benefits of yoga and stressed the need to practice yoga and other physical exercises regularly. He also thanked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for taking the 5000-year-old practice to the global stage and making it popular across the world.

A mass demonstration of Common Yoga Protocol was also held at the venue. Around 300 persons, including students, Panchayat representatives, NDRF and ITBP personnel took part in the yoga demonstration. Later in the day, the minister also reviewed the status of implementation of various schemes under P&RD and Food & Civil Supplies department at a review meeting held at the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in the presence of senior district administration officials of Sonitpur and Biswanath.

GOLAGHAT: On the occasion of 9th International Day Yoga, 74 Assam Girls (I) Coy and 12 Assam (I) Coy, NCC, Jorhat Gp organized Yoga at various institutes under its wings. The main event was organized at HPB Girls’ College, Golaghat wherein the participants included Col JV Singh, Deputy Commander, Jorhat, NCC Gp HQ, Lt Col Ak Jayanta, OC 74 Assam Girls (I) Coy, Dr Bulbuli Barwah, Principal HPB Girls’ College, Golaghat, and others.

Silchar: Silchar joined the 9th International Day of Yoga on Wednesday along with the nations in a befitting manner. The programme, held at India Club Indoor Stadium was organized by the district administration in collaboration with District Health Society. Minister Parimal Suklabaidya, MP ,Dr Rajdeep Roy, MLA Silchar, Dipayan Chakraborty, Deputy Commissioner, Rohan Kumar Jha attended the programme.

Suklabaidya said, “Yoga is an ancient Indian practice that helps in maintaining both physical and mental well being, and over the years, it has found popularity in other countries as well. In 2014 Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed marking the day as the International Day of Yoga in his address at the UN General Assembly and the proposal was endorsed by 175 member nations. Since then the United Nations recognized June 21 as International Day of Yoga.”

He said over the past one and half year, yoga has gained more importance as yoga is an old practice that combines physical postures, meditation, breathing exercises and ethical principles to promote the overall well being of people. Accordingly the theme for this year’s yoga day is “ yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”.
