SIVASAGAR: "Shanti Das came from a simple family. She didn't have a lot, except when it came to heart and dedication. When it came to those things, she was wealthier than most people. Many people loved Shanti."
During her career as a Librarian in the prestigious Sibsagar College, Joysagar, Shanti Das handled virtually every task required to run the library. She will always be remained in the hearts of the people of Sivasagar, said former Principal of Sibsagar Commerce College and noted educationist Dipali Chaliha.
Releasing the book titled 'Urmimalee Shanti Das', written in the memory of Late Shanti Das at the 'Jadav Prasad Chaliha Auditorium' in Sibsagar College, Joysagar on Saturday, Dipali Chaliha said, "Her dedication and devotion to work ushered in various devrelopments in the Sibsagar College Library. She also developed the hobby of reading and learning not only among the students but also among many others," recounted Chaliha.
The memoir has been edited by Gitali Das — daughter-in-law of (late) Shanti Das and wife of Supratim Das.
Earlier, the event began with the performance of a 'Borgeet' by Khanin Pator and his team, followed by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by Dr Prafulla Chandra Kalita — Principal of Sibsagar College, Joysagar.
Dr Prakash Kotoky delivered the welcome speech while noted educationist and litterateur Khagendra Nath Bhuyan delivered the inaugural address.
Several noted persons were present in the release programme including Dr. Ratneswar Deuri, Monika Saikia, Saurav Chaliha, journalists Somesh Deka, Sanjib Dey and Muktab Hussain, family members of Late Shanti Das eminent paediatrician Dr. Sukalyan Das, Ajanta Gogoi Das, Sudakshina Das Bordoloi and Sudarshana Das Bharali.
The programme was anchored by Dilip Das.
