Gifted son of Darrang district and an expert of rubber plantation management, Amar Kumar Sharma passed away on January 27, 2022 in Guwahati after a brief illness. Born in an illustrious family of Bamunpara village in Mangaldai, he was the fourth of five children of eminent educationist of the district, Dambarudhar Sarma and Labanyapriya Devi. Despite losing his parents early in life, he could attain success through sincerity and devotion to work. A diligent student, he performed well in studies in his school and college days.

After his graduation, he taught briefly in Mangaldai Government HS School. In 1976, he joined the newly-formed Assam Plantation Crops Development Corporation Ltd. (APCDCL) under the State Government as Assistant Manager, and was a member of the first batch of trainees sent by APCDC to Kerala for training in management of coffee and rubber plantations. He served with distinction in the Corporation for nearly four decades and retired as its Managing Director in 2012.

A simple and amiable personality, he endeared himself to all who came in contact with him and was a favourite in his vast circle of friends and relatives. He leaves behind his wife Udaya Phukan, who is a senior teacher and administrator in Assam Jatiya Bidyalay, Noonmati, and two sons, Abhilash Kumar Sharma, who is currently Manager in SAIL, and Abhishek Kumar Sharma, who is an engineer employed with Capgemini. On the occasion of his adya shraddha, I pray for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
