Dr. Nanikanta Bora, a distinguished Physician, former Rotarian and noted Billiard Player is no more. He left for his heavenly abode on February 12 at his residence at Bhairab Nagar Tezpur due to prolonged illness.

He was born on June 4, 1936. He has studied at various government schools across Assam and completed his ISC from Nagaon College. Late Bora joined Assam Medical College, Dibrugarh in 1956. After completing his MBBS he joined Oil India Hospital Duliajan in 1962 where he served for almost 15 years.

During his tenure in Oil India Dr. Bora completed his DMRD from his alma mater, Assam Medical College. Thereafter he resigned from the Oil India Service and started his independent Express Clinic at Tezpur in 1979 and that was the First X ray Clinic established at whole North Bank of Assam.

Being a clean learner, Dr. Bora continued to learn and successfully completed a course Ultra Sonography from EKO X-ray in Kolkata. Dr. Bora once again pioneered to setup first Ultrasound Clinic at Tezpur.

Dr Bora spent his whole life as a doctor and served the community. In his last 5 decades of service and practice he has healed and touched many lives. His contribution to Radiology and to Tezpur is immense.

Both Dr Bora and his wife used to give free medical service to Ramkrishna Sewa Ashram Charitable Dispensary every week and they also used to provide medicines to Vivekananda Sewa Kendra, Missionaries of Charities. Dr. Bora as a Rotarian extended huge contribution in connection with the various service, programmes undertaken by Tezpur Rotary Club. He was a member of prestigious Station Club of Tezpur.

Dr. Bora was a noted sportsman during his college days he was leading the College Cricket Team as a Captain. Dr. Bora was given felicitation by Sonitpur Press Club for his contribution in the field of humanity. He was a man of golden heart with hilarious nature.

He never hesitated to visit the patients even at odd hours of the night in the event of any emergency call for which he was very popular amongst the common people. He contributed to the poor and the needy persons. His sudden death has cast a pall of gloom in and around Tezpur. He was 86 and survived by wife and a daughter.

His death was a huge loss to society. A large number of people visited his house to pay their last homage. On the occasion of his Addya Shraddha I pray to almighty for the peaceful rest of his soul.
