A tribute to Dwipendra Narayan Konwar

'Some are bound to die young. By dying young a person stays young in people's memory. If he burns brightly before he dies, his brightness shines for all time.'

Yes! This is the true reflection of this saying reflected in the illustrious life and works of our loving friend and colleague, Dwipendra Narayan Konwar (56)-a journalist with high morality and ethics, a writer, a well-known organizer and social activist of Darrang district. An active activist of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) since the historic six-year long Assam Movement and a key person in the jatiyatabadi thoughts and works in undivided Darrang district, Dwipendra Narayan Konwar's life was dedicated to social service and literary activities.

Though death is inevitable, yet it is very difficult to accept the news of some deaths. Our loving friend and colleague Dwipendra Narayan Konwar finally met with the tragic end to his life in the early hours of February 12 following a sudden ailment. His demise has been very difficult for his friends, colleagues and relatives to accept. Penning the obituary in memory of a close friend also becomes a very difficult job.

An ardent follower of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) and a very popular youth with organizing skills with a selfless mind, Konwar since his student days had earned the reputation of being a good orator and organizer. He was chosen as the general secretary and president of Darrang district committee of AJYCP. He always preferred to shoulder other's burden and problems without caring for his own. Known for his 'simple living and high thinking' lifestyle, elocution and organizational skills, Konwar was elected as the secretary and president of Darrang Zila Xahitya Xabha and till his last he was entrusted with the charge of the secretary of the regional office of Axam Xahitya Xabha.

Born to Kulendra Narayan Konwar and Hema Lata Konwar of Banglagarh (Block Chowk) on the outskirts of Mangaldai town as the eldest son in 1964, Dwipendra Narayan Konwar since his student days had proved himself to be a disciplined leader. A known name in media circles in the district since quite a long period, he was associated with Mangal Batori, Dainik Agradoot and Adinor Sambad and received much appreciation for his regular columns and other relevant articles. He authored 12 important books, including Kock Kamatar Eti Kotha which was released by the then Governor of Assam, Banwarilal Purohit at Raj Bhavan, Guwahati in 2017. Besides other social organizations, he founded Mangaldai Media Circle in 2007 and shouldered the responsibility as its president. As he was deeply concerned with the development of Mangaldai, he, supported by a group of like-minded persons, formed a socio cultural organization called Mangaldai Unnayan Parishad in 2007 and offered his selfless service as its secretary till his last.

He leaves behind his bereaved wife, two sons, a daughter and a grandchild. Today on this auspicious day of adya shraddha, I offer my last salute to our loving colleague and share the pain and sufferings of the bereaved family members.
