Tezpur: A two-day workshop on solid waste, plastic waste and biomedical waste management was held in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in compliance with an order of the National Green Tribunal.
Deputy Commissioner Narsing Pawar, chaired the first session on Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 on Thursday. The workshop was conducted by District Development Commissioner Farouk Alam, which was attended by all senior district administration officials and officials from line departments concerned such as health, PHE, Forests, Industries and Commerce, municipal bodies and BDOs.
The two-day workshop discussed in details the Solid Waste Management Rules 2016, Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, Bio-Medical Waste Management Rules 2016 and the role of functionaries and scientific way of disposal of various types of waste.
Videos and films on good waste management practices from around the world were screened during the course of the workshop. The participants took an active part in the workshop and discussed in details various ideas that can be implemented for efficient waste management in the district. The workshop discussed issues related to the status of waste management in the district, available technologies and role of common man in waste management in the district.
