TANGLA: The All Assam Minorities Students’ Union (AAMSU) vehemently opposed the government’s move of providing midday meal meals in schools by NGOs and depriving nearly 1.17 lakh midday meal workers of their jobs.

The general secretary of AAMSU, Abdur Rahman Biswas decried the move and alleged that the NGOs were serving poor quality food. “The act of the government of handing over the midday meal scheme to NGOs of north India which have no knowledge about food habits of this region will be detrimental to the very cause of the scheme,” he said.

“There has been large-scale corruption in the name of providing midday meal in schools by NGOs,” alleged Mahbubul Alam, general secretary of Darrang chapter AAMSU. “The State Government has totally failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people,” said the education secretary of Darrang chapter AAMSU, Sultan Ahmed.
