DIBRUGARH: Newly joined Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Manoj Dhanowar was accorded a rousing welcome on his arrival at the Dibrugarh airport on Thursday afternoon. Dhanowar was a Congrees leader, who was dissatisfied with Congress' functioning. He is one of the strong leaders of tea tribe community.

On Wednesday, Dhanowar reached Guwahati from Delhi after joining the Arvind Kejriwal-led party. The former Congress leader had joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Party along with several Raijor Dol leaders in New Delhi on May 2. Dhanowar was greeted by a large crowd of enthusiastic supporters at the Dibrugarh airport on his arrival.

A bike rally was taken out by his supporters from the airport to Dhanowar's residence at Digboi covering a distance of 74 km. Manoj Dhanowar, who belongs to the strong tea community, is the son of late Rameswar Dhanowar, an eight-time Congress MLA from Digboi. In 2016, after the death of his father, Manoj Dhanowar had contested from the Digboi seat on a Congress ticket but lost to BJP.

In 2021, he contested from the Lahowal assembly seat but lost once again to BJP. Months before joining AAP he had resigned as the chairman of Tea and Ex-Tea Mazdoor Congress citing differences of opinion on crucial issues concerning Assam and its people.

Taking to reporters at the Dibrugarh airport Dhanowar said, "At this moment I don't want to criticize any political party. AAP has emerged as an alternative when people have lost trust in political parties. People have embraced the party for its clean politics. In coming days AAP is going to become the principal political party of Assam."

He added, "In Delhi I met Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convenor Arvind Kejriwal and submitted a memorandum highlighting the major issues of Assam. He gave a patient hearing and was concerned about the issues."
