TINSUKIA: The activists of Tinsukia Regional Committee of Adivasi Students' Association of Assam (AASAA) burnt the effigies of three parliamentarians of Assam belonging to tea tribe community, namely Union Minister Rameswar Teli, Pallab Lochan Das and RS member Kamakhya Prasad Tasa at Thana Chariali, Tinsukia in protest against non-inclusion of ST status to Adivasi community, on Thursday.

Led by Shyam Harpal, president of Tinsukia regional committee of AASAA, the activists later submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighting their grievances. Talking to media they said it was wrong to designate Adivasi along with other tea tribe communities. The Adivasi has distinct entity, claimed the AASAA activists. They also demanded allotment of myadi patta to landless Adivasi community. In the protest, 18 anchalik committees of Tinsukia district participated.
