LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Students' Union (AASU) has vehemently condemned the alleged attack on the people of Assam by miscreants from across the border at Mingmang under Dhemaji district on Thursday.

In a press release, Lakhimpur AASU president Simanta Neog and general secretary Swaraj Sankar Gogoi said, "Though AASU has been consecutively demanding to resolve the border dispute between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, it is observed that the governments at the Centre and in the State have paid no heed for the same till date. As a result of it, miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh could manage to attack the people of Assam."

In this connection, AASU Central Committee organizing secretary Pulok Borah and executive member Dhanmoni Dutta also slammed the Union and State governments for their alleged lackadaisical attitude with regard to initiating strong steps to provide security to the people of Assam living in the border areas against the attack and atrocities caused by the miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh. They warned the miscreants from Arunachal Pradesh not to attack the people of Assam.

They further alleged, "The aggressors from Arunachal Pradesh have been constructing roads, buildings, churches etc. in Sessa, Ranga Reserve Forest, Dullung Reserve Forest belonging to Assam due to lack of bold steps by the State government and Forest Department against them."

Lakhimpur AASU will initiate a stir on February 3 to protest against the alleged failure on the part of the State government towards resolving the Inter-State border dispute and securing the people living in the border area and inattentive attitude of the Union government regarding the issue.
