AASU conducts “Janataar Gorjon” Programme in Dibrugarh to protest against CAA 2019

Dibrugarh: Entire Dibrugarh town came to a standstill on Tuesday as thousands of people walked down the streets to participate in the "Janataar Gorjon" programme organized at the Chowkidinghee playground by the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act 2019.

The protest saw the attendance of over 70,000 people from all walks of life and from every community.

Among those who addressed the mammoth gathering includes ex-Asom Sahitya Sabha president Dr. Nagen Saikia, AASU general secretary Lurin Jyoti Gogoi, noted singers Manash Robin, Lohit Gogoi and Neel Akash.

The speakers vowed to carry on with their protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act until it was scrapped.

Notably, Dibrugarh town observed a spontaneous shutdown on Tuesday to express solidarity to AASU's Anti-CAA "Janata Gorjon" programme.

All business establishments, schools, colleges and banking institutions remained closed during the day.
