PALASBARI: In the absence of any investigation into the alleged rice scam at Marutii Quality Products Pvt.Ltd (MQPPL) plant No. 2 in Industrial Growth Centre, AIIDC Chatabarie, Chaygaon, the Chaygaon Anchalik Students' Union submitted memorandum to the Chief Minister of Assam through the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup, Kailash Kartik N on Friday.
The memorandum stated that on the night of June 1, the people of Nadhiyapara village in Chaygaon blocked a 14-wheeler truck (NL07AA0493). A large quantity of rice was found in the truck. Marutii Quality Products Pvt.Ltd has been allegedly illegally importing rice from the Food Corporation of India (FCI) and selling it at higher prices to Assam Rifles, CRPF and common people. Less than a week after the incident, the administration has not yet arrested the owner of Marutii Quality Products Pvt.Ltd and all the employees involved in the incident, as per the memorandum.
The Chaygaon Anchalik Students' Union has demanded that a high-level inquiry be held into the matter and that all the culprits should be given exemplary punishment.
