LAKHIMPUR: The general conference of the All Assam Students' Union (AASU) will be held this year in Lakhimpur district with a four-day long programme.

The event will be solemnized under the auspices of the Lakhimpur district unit of the organization with public support from November 29 to December 2. The organization has declared that several thousands of delegates across the State will take part in the event, which will chalk out the future agenda of works and strategies of the organization.

The Lakhimpur district AASU has already geared up its preparations to conduct the event smoothly and successfully on the designated days. As part of such preparations, a public meeting was organized at the playground of North Lakhimpur Boys' Government HS School in order to hold discussion over the matter. The meeting commenced with Lakhimpur district AASU president Simanta Neog in the chair while general secretary Swaraj Sankar Gogoi explained the objective of the programme.

Lakhimpur Kendriya Mahavidyalay Principal Dr. Golap Sarmah Baruah, Commerce College Principal Dr. Lohit Hazarika, Itanagar Government College retired Principal Bali Narayan Phukan, retired Vice-Principal Prafulla Sarmah Baruah, retired Inspector of Schools Dr Ramesh Chandra Chutia, retired DEEO Jiban Chandra Dutta, AJYCP central committee assistant general secretary Saurabh Das, MASS secretary Raju Singha and many other prominent persons were present in the meeting and put forward their suggestions.

In the same meeting, a strong reception committee to host the event with success was constituted with Dr Prabal Saikia, the Principal Scientist of RARS, as president, student leader Dhanmoni Dutta and social worker Narendra Maheswari as working president, AASU chief organizing secretary Pulok Borah as chief secretary, Simanta Neog and Swaraj Sankar Gogoi as joint secretaries.
