GAURISAGAR: AASU Sivasagar District Committee has called a 100-hour ONGC bandh for leasing out the Galeky oil field to a foreign company, negligence of Assam Asset, Nazira in the development of the district under the initiative of Corporate Social Responsibity (CSR) and to demand recruitment of local unemployment youths.

The bandh ended on Wednesday afternoon in response to an appeal from the Sivasagar district administration. The bandh began around 5 am on Wednesday and paralyzed normal life in the workshop and other oil fields in Nazira, Geleky and Sivasagar. Sivasagar Deputy Commissioner Dr Subramoney Iyer Lakshmanan made an appeal to the student body not to call for any agitation as the NRC update process was at a crucial phase and hence public peace and order was important.
