SIVASAGAR: The All Sivasagar District Students' Union (ASDSU) alleged that the ONGC, Assam Asset is currently incurring losses and mining and production process have also been vastly influenced due to the negligence of a section of non-Assamese officials and the anti-Assam stance of the company.

Thousands of members of the students' body under Sivasagar and Nazira subdivisions, led by advisor of its district committee and central executive Samiran Phukan, president and general secretary of ASDSU, Manab Hazarika and Dipankar Saikia took out a protest rally from Nazira town and staged a protest in front of the head office of ONGC, Assam Asset on Wednesday.

Later, in presence of Nazira Circle Officer Vanlal Limpuia Nanpui and Nazira Subdivisional Police Officer Subhalakshmi Dutta who arrived at the protest site, a memorandum addressed to the Executive Director of ONGC, Assam Asset, was handed over to Kumar Swati, General Manager of Human Resources department of the corporation.

The memorandum included demands for officer-level special recruitment process for the local unemployed youth at the mining production area under the corporation, arrangement for mining and production through latest technology management at all oil fields under the ONGC, Assam Asset as well as selected oil fields with production potential, cooperation for development in the socio-economic, education and cultural fields at the mining-production areas of the corporation, declaration of special package for the benefits of unemployed youths and several others. AASU also asked the ONGC to clarify its position on the demands within 15 days.
