AASU, Tinsukia demands inquiry into forgery by vehicle dealers

TINSUKIA: The Tinsukia Regional Students' Union (AASU) has demanded an inquiry into forgery allegedly perpetrated by the dealers of 2-wheelers in connivance with district transport officials and insurance companies. Though the state government has banned the plying of BS4 engine 2-wheelers from April 1, the dealers have been allegedly selling the pre-registered vehicles at high price.

In a memorandum submitted to the Deputy Commissioner of Tinsukia on Friday, the student body alleged that the dealers retained several hundred 2-wheelers with BS4 engine with their family members and employees prior to April 1 and later sell out to general public at high cost. All these 2-wheelers have 2 insurance policies bearing same chassis numbers with discrepancy in ownership, alleged TRSU claiming that 2 dealers in Tinsukia and one at Doomdooma have been involved in fraudulent business. Keeping the interest of the consumers, the organisation demanded an inquiry suspecting involvement of insurance companies and transport officials.
