LAKHIMPUR: The All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) has opposed the revised and increased registration rates of contractors in the Public Works Department (Roads) of the State.
Notably, the rates for registration of contractors in the PWD (Roads) have been revised and increased in different categories, which will certainly impact upon the upcoming contractors. As per the revised rates contractors seeking registration for Class II and III categories, will now have to pay Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Similarly, the non-refundable registration fees to be deposited in the revenue head by Class-IA contractors is Rs. 5,00,000, by Class-IB contractors is Rs. 2,00,000 and Class-IC contractors is Rs. 1,00,000. The validity period of registration is for a period of 3 years only. This notification was issued by the Commissioner and Special Secretary of PWD (Roads) on August 8.
The AAUA has expressed vehement resentment over the increased and revised rates concerned. In a press communique, AAUA central committee general secretary Jiban Rajkhowa said that the Government of Assam had imposed an unmanageable burden with these revised and increased rates over the unemployed youths of the State, who had dreamt to be employed as contractors in the PWD (Roads). The organization demanded the government to withdraw the recent notification at the earliest.
