LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of All Assam Unemployed Association (AAUA) flayed the North Lakhimpur Municipal Board (NLMB) for its 'lackadaisical' attitude with regard to resolving multiple problems of the North Lakhimpur urban area.

The organization on Friday staged protest against the civic body by initiating a two hour long sit-in in front of the Adarsha Bazaar of North Lakhimpur town. By staging the protest programme, led by AAUA Lakhimpur district president Binod Das and general secretary KhirodChetia, the organization demanded the NLMB to cover the drains of the town with lids immediately, to close the shopping malls of the town which are running without parking facilities, to regularize the jobs of the NLMB employees who have been working temporarily for 15-20 years as per the resolution taken in the monthly review meeting and to stop the eviction of street vendors without managing prior rehabilitation for them.

In this regard, the organization submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner of Lakhimpur district and demanded him to take steps to resolve the problems soon. Otherwise, the organization has issued threat to intensify protest against NLMB in the upcoming days. The Lakhimpur district unit of Scheduled Caste Students' Union extended support to the protest programme.
