Absconding killer Jayanta Barman arrested in Lakhimpur

LAKHIMPUR: The absconding killer Jayanta Barman, who killed his wife along with his three minor daughters on Saturday night in the No. 12 quarter of Assam Co-operative Jute Mill, located at Shilghat under Kaliabor subdivision of Nagaon district, was dramatically arrested in North Lakhimpur town by Lakhimpur police on Monday morning. This was announced by Lakhimpur ASP Pranab Kumar Barman.

The accused had been absconding after barbarously killing his wife Baijayanti Barman (37) along with three daughters- Nikita Barman (13), Bhaswati Barman (9) and Nibedita Barman (6) - which created massive sensation across the State.

As per report received, Jayanta Kumar Barman is the permanent inhabitant of Bekatbari village under Mukalmowa Police Station of Nalbari district. He joined in the Assam Co-Operative Jute Mill at Shilghat in 2004 as a store attendant. After committing the heinous crime on Saturday night, the culprit fled to Guwahati by the Shilghat-Guwahati passenger train on Sunday morning. Then he went to North Lakhimpur by night service bus and arrived at the town on Monday morning. He finally was caught by Lakhimpur Police.

Jayanta Kumar Barman told the police and media persons that he had heavily in debt due to which he lost his mental balance and killed four of his family members. He was addicted to playing teer and had lost a lot of money. He had borrowed money from many people to run the family and to gamble and was in no position to return the money. Later the killer was handed over to Kaliabor police.
