ABSU and allied organizations demand rectification of constituencies in BTC

KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU), Kokrajhar district committee and its allied organizations comprising Bodo Sahitya Sabha, All Assam Tribal Sangha, Boro Somaj and Dularai Boro Harimh Afad (DBHA) have demanded that there should be some rectification in the draft delimitation of constituencies that fall under Kokrajhar district.

The ABSU and allied organizations jointly submitted a memorandum to Election Commission of India through Kokrajhar DC demanding some rectification and changes in the draft delimitation process in Kokrajhar district. The memorandum said they were satisfied with the creation of five new constituencies in BTC besides retaining Kokrajhar Parliamentary Constituency as reserved for ST. They however, said they wanted some changes in the constituencies that fall under Kokrajhar district according to the convenience of the indigenous tribal people.

The memorandum said many Bodo tribal villages fall under Bhatipara, Sukanjhora, Magurmari, Dhaoliguri, Dotma, Angthihara and Bhaoraguri VCDC have been removed from Dotma and Kokdajhar ST constituencies and clubbed with new open Bsokhungri constituency. Similarly, some Boro and Rabha tribal villages of Tipkai, Debitola VCDC under Podbhotjhora sub division have been brought under Baokhungri constituency instead of clubbing it with newly-created Porbhotjhora constituency for the convenience of the people. The organizations demanded that for the convenience of the people, the villages of Boro and other tribal villages, geographically attached to Dotma and Kokrajhar constituencies, should be brought back to Dotma and Kokrajhar constituencies from Baokhungri whose geographical area is very inconvenient.

The joint memorandum also demanded that there should be another parliamentary constituency, Udalguri by name, with the constituencies that fall under Udalguri and Baksa district to ensure maximum political privileges for indigenous tribal people. The organizations hoped that the Election Commission of India will take appropriate measures for the interest of indigenous tribal people in the finalization of constituencies.
