KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) burnt the effigies of the Vice Chancellor of Bodoland University (BU), Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh in front of Bodoland University (BU) as a mark of continuing protest against him for his alleged corruption charges and monopolistic approach in BU administration. The ABSU has been demanding immediate suspension of the Vice Chancellor of BU, Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh, who was accused of corruption by the CM’s Vigilance Cell and Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption, and appointment of a new VC in the varsity.

The ABSU also burnt the effigy of Additional Chief Secretary of Assam for Higher Education and chairman of the high-level enquiry committee, Biswaranjan Samal for giving a clean sheet to Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh despite findings of his involvement in the corruption case. The student body also burnt the effigies of Dr SK Deb, Prof of Civil Engineering, IIT-Guwahati, Dr Mrinal Kanti Choudhury, Academic adviser to the Governor, and BB Mishra, Finance Officer of Tezpur University, who were the members of the high-level inquiry committee for their alleged role in protecting Prof Singh. The ABSU has warned that it will not allow anyone to play with the future of the students and will continue to protest against the corrupt VC till action is taken on him and a new VC is appointed in BU. The Union is likely to stage a massive protest for three days on October 3, October 4 and October 5 in Bodoland University.

Talking to reporters, assistant general secretary of the ABSU, Dinesh Brahma said the ABSU has been demanding the removal of Prof Laishram Ladu Singh as he is accused of corruption by the CM’s Vigilance Cell and Directorate of Vigilance. Brahma further said that it was quite suspicious that the high-level inquiry committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary of Higher Education, Government of Assam, Biswaranjan Samal had given a clean sheet to Prof. Laishram Ladu Singh without substantial conclusion.
