Kokrajhar: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Saturday appealed to the governments of India and Assam to adhere to the Bodo Peace Accord signed on January 27 with the ABSU, factions of NDFB and UBPO, and to consider the release of the president of the NDFB, Ranjan Daimary alias DR Nabla, who is one of the signatories to the accord.
The general secretary of the ABSU, Lawrence Islary appealed for the release of Daimary for the greater interest of the implementation of the clauses of the accord and peacebuilding process after the accord and to give an opportunity to the leadership of NDFB to join the mainstream after they have shunned the path of armed struggle through the accord. He said the ABSU believed the Government of India and Government of Assam would take initiative for the sake of the political amnesty and release Ranjan Daimary on bail as early as possible.
On the other hand, the ABSU strongly condemned the firing incident at Panery in the Udalguri district where one person named Khairul Haque was killed on Friday. “We appeal to the administration to trace down the culprits and book them for stringent punishment,” said Lawrence Islary.
Meanwhile, the president of the ABSU, Dipen Boro said the student body was not at all involved in pelting stones on the vehicle of BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary’s wife Seuli Mohilary and killing of Kairul Haque in Udalguri district. He said the accusations on ABSU were not based on fact and strongly demanded that there should be a proper inquiry into the stone-pelting incident and killing of Haque by unknown miscreants at the earliest.
