KOKRAJHAR: A joint meeting of different students' unions and social organizations of BTR and Assam was held under the auspices of the All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) on Friday at the community guest house, Howly, to discuss on various socio-economic, education and cultural issues of various communities residing in BTR. After thorough discussion, the meeting resolved to work jointly on some common issues and prepare a common agenda for the interest of the people of BTR and Assam.

The meeting resolved to form a co-ordination committee, a conglomeration of different students' unions and social organizations of BTR with the name and nomenclature of Coordination Committee of BTR Organizations (CCBTRO). The All Bodo Students' Union (ABSU) will be the convener organization while all other student unions and social organizations, which are signatories of the resolutions, will be member organizations. The meeting resolved to work jointly on implementation of the BTR accord in letter and spirit for all-round development of the region of all communities.

It resolved to work jointly on various common agenda of the communities for socio-economic, uplift, quality education building, language and literature development, cultural progress with exchange programmes among the communities and to provide equal rights and justice to all communities. It also resolved to organize awareness campaign on land rights of the tribals and non-tribals of the BTR as per the clause 4.3 of the Sixth Schedule Amended Act, 2003 and to work on building permanent peace, rehabilitation, harmony and brotherhood among the communities. The meeting decided to campaign against the anti-social activities in the region regarding human trafficking, abuse of drugs and gambling and to work out a joint student meet programme in each district, subdivision and areas related to quality education, employment and against anti-social elements in the society.

In this joint meeting, representative of different student unions and social organizations were present in the meeting and placed their views and opinions regarding the agenda or purpose of the meeting. The leaders of student unions and social organizations who attended included Dipen Boro, president of ABSU, Deepak Nirala, general secretary of Gorkha Samaj, Jalti Deka, general secretary of All Modahi Kachari Students' Union and Prabin Deka, president of All Assam Sarania Kachari Students' Union, among others.
