KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Thursday heartily welcomed the three-day holistic visit by Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, to Assam for the first time. The student union hoped that the purpose of visit will usher in strengthening sustained peace and bilateral ties between India and Bhutan in many aspects and it will improve the relationship between India and Bhutan.

The president of ABSU Dipen Boro said the recent statement of Dawa Penjor, General Secretary of Bhutan India Friendship Association (BIFA) was highly significant for them towards building a strong relationship with India from across the border, the state of Assam and Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) sharing 265 Km of international border from Sankosh river to Bhairabkunda. He said the visit of the Bhutan King will strengthen the socio-cultural understanding, geographical harmony between the two nations besides strengthening the bond of brotherhood among the neighbouring communities. He also said for long decades, the ABSU and BIFA had been working for building peace in bordering areas, issues related to security concerns of citizens and solving of misunderstandings through amicable solution prioritising goodwill relationship between the neighbouring communities to strengthen Bhutan-India friendship.

“The All Bodo Students' Union has always placed a high importance on fostering ties of brotherhood with the surrounding country and establishing lasting peace in the Bodoland region,” he said adding that permanent peace in the region has been made possible by the recent Bodo Peace Accord, which was signed on January 27, 2020, by the ABSU, UBPO, and four factions of the NDFB. Following the peace accord, which we had witnessed for two decades during the movement period, citizens of both nations no longer feel fearful or anxious.

The ABSU extended its utmost gratitude to the Prime Minister of India, Home Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Assam as well as the CEM of BTR for transforming it into reality.

Boro further said the ABSU believed the King of Bhutan's historic visit would ensure unprecedented long-lasting peace in the region, promote a more hopeful and peaceful future, and strengthen the close friendship between Bhutan and India with the neighbouring states of Assam and BTR.
