KOKRAJHAR: The Joint Monitoring Committee meeting on BTR Accord was held in New Delhi on Thursday to discuss the implementation of clauses of the accord. The delegation of ABSU was led by Dipen Boro, president of ABSU and was also attended by Khunghra Swargiary, adviser, Kwrwmdao Wary and Rwmdwn Basumatary, vice presidents and general secretary Khanindra Basumatary. The president of United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO)-Manuranjan Basumatary and general secretary- Pitambar Brahma also joined the meeting with the officials of Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), government of India at North Block in New Delhi represented by Piyush Goyal, Additional Home Secretary (NE) and Akash Deep, Principal Secretary of BTC. Assam Government officials joined via video conferencing. According to sources from ABSU, the implementation of clauses of BTR accord was thoroughly discussed in the meeting.

ABSU and UBPO submitted a reminder to implement all the clauses of BTR accord in letter and spirit in a time bound manner. As committed by the Government of India, ABSU demanded to ensure time bound implementation of boundary extension, inclusion of villages and increasing BTC constituencies from 40 to 60.

Sources said the Government of India had informed the sanctioned packages of Rs. 655 crore by the centre for projects and Rs. 180 crore by the state for different projects. Apart from these there are numerous central projects that are under review by the concerned ministries.

The case relating to former members of the NDFB with 263 non heinous withdrawn, 2117 heinous are under scrutiny out of which 200 cases were taken for consideration to withdraw. However, ABSU appealed to grant bail to those under NIA, CBI and convicted members. Regarding the ex- gratia, the Government of Assam informed that the remaining cases verified would be given by January next year.
