KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU), as in the previous years, organized an open Bwisagu at Government HS & MP School playground on Saturday where people from all walks of life - in colourful traditional attires Dokhna, Jwmgra and Aronai –participated in the celebration.

Dipen Boro, president of the ABSU, said that the union had been celebrating open Bwisagu for peace and harmony in every district. He said that the entire atmosphere was surcharged with rhythmic sounds of kham and siphung, serja, zabkring and thorka, etc. and singing sweet Baisagu songs. The ABSU emphasizes the need of community participation to keep alive the old-age tradition of Bwisagu celebration, Boro added.

The rhythmic sound of kham, siphung, jhota, serja and jabsing (Bodo traditional musical instruments) gripped the air in different nook and corner of Bodo belts as people celebrated the Rongjali Bwisagu. Flavour of music and dance were visible everywhere as people, young and old, men and women alike were seen merry-making and celebrating the spring festival singing and dancing.

Dipen Boro, president of ABSU, hoisted the union flag followed by paying respect to elders by giving them Aronai one by one. Dr Surat Narzary, president of the Bodo Sahitya Sanha (BSS), MP (RS) Rwngwra Narzary, MLAs Lawrence Islary, Jayanta Basumatary, Jiron Basumatary, EMs Ukil Moshahary, Ranjit Basumatary and Reorea Narzihary, and others were present at the celebration.
