ABSU to protest against alleged harassment to jailed NDFB members by NIA and CBI

KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students’ Union (ABSU) on Friday said that they had been closely observing the alleged ill treatment and harassment to jailed NDFB members by NIA and CBI and warned that the union will be compelled to launch agitation if it is not stopped.

In a press meet held at Bodofa House, Kokrajhar on Friday, the president of the ABSU Dipen Boro said the union had decided to sit for a demonstration on May 29 in Kokrajhar demanding to stop constant harassment, mental and psychological pressure by NIA during hearing and trial by the special court to the former NDFB, as reported by the family members of the jailed former NDFB. He said the union clearly stated that after signing of the Bodo Peace Accord on January 27, 2020 all those harassments are unjustified and unfortunate to the peace-loving people.

ABSU appealed to the Union government to stop the hearing and trial, convicting one after another by NIA court and demanded for release of all under trial and convicted members of Ex NDFB by CBI and NIA and withdrawal of all the remaining cases for the interest of permanent peace and harmony in the region maintaining the true spirit of the peace accord. In this regard the union will send a memorandum to the President of India, Prime Minister of India and Home Minister of India soon.

Boro said ABSU had withdrawn its decision for 3-hour dharna at every district headquarters of Assam, BTR and KAAC on May 8 as per the decision of the executive meeting taken on April 12 held at Mayuri Guest House, Manas National Park in demand of village notification of the Boro-Kachari Welfare Autonomous Council (BKWAC) administered area, constituency formation, conduct of election and increase of the fund for council for the 2023-24 financial years to resolve socio- political issues, education and economic development of the Bodo people in Assam. He said the decision to withdraw was taken after the draft publication of the notification by the Governor of Assam issued on May 4 and after announcement of the dharna on May 2. It has already elapsed 3 years.

The ABSU welcomed the present initiative and extended their gratitude to the State government for initiating step for implementation of the clause 5.1 MoS of Bodo accord. Further, the union demanded completion of all the remaining process without further delay. The Union has already instructed to all the district committee of ABSU to submit claims and objections for inclusion and exclusion of villages before May 12 after the discussion with all the Bodo organisations, intellectuals, and social workers.
