NAGAON: Abul Hussain, a dreaded drug peddler of Fakirgram under Dhing PS in the district was injured in police firing near at Nagaon Borbheti area on Saturday afternoon while he was trying to escape from police after arrest.

The injured drug peddler was immediately taken to Dhing FRU Hospital for treatment. But he was later referred to Guwahati Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Sources claimed that based on intelligence input, a police team led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Rupjyoti Kalita and officer in charge, Dhing PS arrested Abul Hussain along with 9 soap cases filled with 111.05 gm suspected heroine from his house and while taking him to police station, he abruptly leaped on police personnel and tried to escape from police near Borbheti. OC, Dhing fired one round into the air to stop him. But the accused did not respond to the police and having no other option, OC, Dhing again fired another round aiming below his waist. As a result, the accused sustained a bullet injury on his left leg and fell down, sources said, adding that a case was registered in this regard.

Following the incident, based on another information, the same police team conducted a naka checking in front of Ahomgaon PO during which police intercepted one Scorpio bearing registration number AS 0 1BZ 4000 and recovered 28 soap cases filled with 336.82 gm suspected narcotics substance like heroine being kept in hidden in the gear box of the vehicle.

Meanwhile, police immediately arrested two occupants of the vehicle identified as Mustafa Ahmed and Jahirul Islam of Samarabari under Dhing PS. Police have registered another case in this regard and further investigation is on, sources added.
