LAKHIMPUR: Health Minister Keshab Mahanta visited Lakhimpur district on Tuesday in order to take stock of the COVID-19 scene of the district and to assess the progress of the construction work of the Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital (LMCH). During the visit, he held a meeting with the officers of the District Health Department and the staff of the LMCH in its conference hall.
Later interacting with the media persons, the minister stated that the construction work of the LMCH was progressing well. "We expect to start the academic course in LMCH from the next academic year. At present, the administrative, academic staff and healthcare officials, including the nurses, have already been appointed. Only some posts of Grade IV officials are to be appointed and recruitment process for these posts will be held soon," added the health minister.
Replying to a query of the media persons, he further asserted that the Lakhimpur Cancer Hospital, which is under construction in LMCH premises at present, would be completed by December 31. The media persons of the district urged the Health Minister to set up the blood bank as an independent establishment with the existing staff by separating it from the LMCH for the convenience of the public in view of providing quick service.
Notably, proposals for the establishment of a new blood banks with Component Separation Units (CSU) facilities at Lakhimpur Medical College and Hospital and to start the academic session of the institution with 100 MBBS students in North Lakhimpur College have been incorporated in this year's budget of the State.
