Academic session of first MBBS batch in Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital starts

KOKRAJHAR: After Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma formally inaugurated the new academic session of MBBS at the Nagaon Medical College in Nagaon and subsequent opening of the academic session at Nalbari Medical College, the academic session of the first batch of MBBS in Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital (KMCH) also started by lighting of the ceremonial lamp by State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta and CEM of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) Pramod Boro in the presence of minister UG Brahma and other dignitaries.

The first batch with 87 students (girls-38 and boys-49) of KMCH was felicitated by the Health Minister and BTC chief Pramod Boro. The Principal of KMCH, Dr Atul Chandra Boro gave the welcome address and thanked the guests, senior citizens, parents and guardians of the students for being part of the historic opening of the new academic session of the MBBS course. He hoped the students of the first batch of KMCH will achieve and shine in life. He called upon the students to keep their fit and stay strong to succeed in their aim of becoming medical practitioners.

In his speech, State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said it was a historic day for the people of Assam as the State had witnessed the ceremonial inauguration of the first batch of MBBS in three new medical colleges- Nagaon, Nalbari and Kokrajhar– today. He said the State Government had set up 15 medical colleges in Assam, of which three colleges inaugurated the academic session of the first batch from today. He said there had been a shortage of doctors in the hospitals across the State but now these problems are being overcome after setting up more medical colleges. He also said within the next few years, the crisis of doctors in Assam will be over. He further said more medical colleges will be established in the State.

The new students were administered pledge on the profession of medical practioner by Dr Anup Kr Barman, Director of Medical Education, Assam. BTC CEM Pramod Boro said it was a momentous day, especially for the people of BTR and lower Assam as the KMCH had started the academic session of the first batch. He said the KMCH was completed beautifully in a fast manner. He said the State had got new medical colleges and KMCH was one of that which would produce many medical professionals in the days to come. He said the KMCH would provide the best services to the people of lower Assam and BTC, besides producing quality doctors.

Minister UG Brahma said it was a historic moment for the people. He said the KMCH became a reality at the initiative of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He said that medical college was one of the pPrime demands of the Bodoland movement and today it had become a reality.

The programme was also attended by Speaker of BTCLA, Katiram Boro, EMs of BTC Reo Reoa Narzihary and Arup Kr Dey, MLAs- Lawrence Islary and Jiron Basumatary, District Commissioner and Secretary of BTC, PK Dwibedi, Principal of KMCH, Atul Chandra Baro and former Deputy chief of BTC, Kampa Borgoyari.
