Account Assistant Caught Red-Handed Accepting Bribe in Morigaon

MORIGAON: Sleuth of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption on Wednesday caught red-handed Account Assistant Joy Ram Das of the Morigaon Treasury office while allegedly taking Rs 1,000 as bribe for passing a GPF bill from a retired teacher, Lakhit Ch. Deka.

The Vigilance & Anti-Corruption team also interrogated a fourth grade employee, Humeswar Hira of Bhurbandha Education Block in connection with the bribery case. On the other hand, a high-level officer of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption said, "We have already arrested one in connection with the bribery case. We were specially called in connection with the case which was put forward by the retired teacher before the Superintendent of Police of Morigaon." In connection with the fourth grade employee, the officer said, "We are interrogating him."

The retired teacher who made the complaint, said, "When I talked to the Account Assistant of the treasury office regarding passing the GPF bill, as advised by the fourth grade employee Humeswar Hira, he then demanded Rs 1,500 for passing the GPF bill immediately. But I refused to pay the Rs. 1500. The Account Assistant then asked me to pay Rs 1,000 for passing the GPF. I agreed to pay the money and immediately rushed to the Superintendent of Police, Morigaon and complained about the Account Assistant. The SP helped me."
