Dibrugarh: In response to the alleged assault on a journalist on Wednesday by some people associated with illegal parking, a meeting was held at the Greater Dibrugarh Press Club on Thursday. Everyone present in the meeting condemned the incident and demanded quick termination of the phenomenon of illegal parking, besides strict action against the culprits.
A warning was also issued to the perpetrators not to repeat such incidents. An appeal was made to the district administration to conduct a tripartite meeting involving Greater Dibrugarh Press Club, district administration and Dibrugarh Municipal Board (DMB) within a week to discuss ways to tackle the menacing problem of illegal parking.
A journalist named Suraj Dutta was allegedly attacked by a group connected with illegal parking in front of the Junction Mall in the evening hours. The assault resulted in severe hand and head injuries of the journalist. As per sources, the police have so far nabbed two people in connection with the incident.
Various associations, including Dibrugarh District Journalists’ Association, Dibrugarh Press Club, Dibrugarh District Journalists’ Security Forum and Tinsukia District Journalists’ Parishad, have expressed their strong disapproval of the incident. They demanded strict punishment for the culprits.
