MANGALDAI: ‘All are equal before the law’. Keeping this in mind, the traffic wing of Mangaldai Police, without caring about the status, rank or identity of the violators of the recently amended Motor Vehicle Act, swung into action to tame the violators. A number of

government officials have been found violating the Act and Traffic wing personnel have been taking a tough stand against such violators. In one such example, the traffic police on duty in Mangaldai town recently locked tyre wheel clamp in an official car belonging to the Income Tax officials. This has been widely appreciated by all sections of the society.

Three traffic personnel, on seeing the vehicle bearing registration number AS 01DX 4974 with a plate displaying ‘Government of India, Ministry of Finance, Income Tax department’, which was parked in ‘No Parking zone’, gathered the courage to lock the tyre wheel clamp. However, at the request of the officials the police did not impose fine on them but

registered a non-FIR case under section 179 (1) of Motor Vehicle Act and forwarded the case to the judicial court.

As per the instruction issued by Superintendent of Police of Darrang, Amrit Bhuyan, the traffic officials have been taking a very tough stand which has resulted in streamlining of traffic movement, fastening of seat belts and wearing of helmets here. Even police officials riding two wheelers without helmets were also imposed fine as per the Motor Vehicle Act.
