KAJALGAON: Playing online games has allegedly resulted in the death of a youth. This incident took place in Chirang district under Runikata police station on Wednesday night. A 17-year old boy named Burlungbuthur Basumatary, son of Lokeswar Basumatary and Tengali Basumatary of village Momerambari (Runikhata) under Runikata police station, was found hanging in his house on Wednesday night. He was a student of Runikata High School and was supposed to appear in the HSLC examination next year.

Villagers and family members said that his mobile phone was damaged a few days back. He asked his parents to repair his mobile phone soon, but his parents could not do so due to lockdown. He then started demanding a new mobile handset from his parents but they could not buy him one. Villagers alleged that Burlungbuthur was addicted to playing online games like PUBG and Free Fire on his mobile phone. They opined that the boy took the extreme step because of his extensive use of mobile phone for playing online games.
