Additional district magistrate, Sivasagar prohibited Plastic items under Section 144 CrPC

GAURISGAR: The Additional district magistrate, Sivasagar, Dilip Terang, vide an order issued on December 20, 2019 imposed prohibitory order under Section 144 CrPC of 1973 against use and sale of plastic carry bags, plastic sheets, multi-layered packaging less than 50 microns; plastic cups with diameter less than 60 mm and thickness less than 50 microns; short life PVC and chlorinated plastic bags, sheets, banners, flex, bunting, flags, irrespective of thickness by any individual including shop-keeper, vendor, whole-seller, retailer, trader, hawker or salesmen. The order also prohibited use, sale and purchase of tobacco leaf, gutka, Tiranga, Shikhar and other such items throughout the district with immediate effect. The order was issued in view of the fact that the use of plastic carry bags and other plastic items used in daily life cause short-term and long-term environmental damage and health hazards.
