BISWANATH CHARIALI: A good number of small business establishments were evicted in the name of widening and four-laning of the National Highway 15 in 2017. Though a section of the small businessmen had been paid compensation, the rest were not paid a single penny.
The affected businessmen alleged that they had submitted the required documents at the PWD office in Tezpur in 2017 and subsequently, they even signed on revenue tickets affixed on some documents providing bank account numbers in 2019 in the Revenue Circle Office of Biswanath. They have been running from pillar to post since then but the matter has become a cry in the wilderness. Protesting against this, the affected small businessmen of Bedeti under Behali LAC in Biswanath district submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister on Thursday through the Executive Magistrate of Biswanath, Abdul Kalam.
