After Arsenal, Chelsea FC stands in solidarity with flood victims of Assam

Guwahati: A day after England's Arsenal expressed solidarity with the flood victims of Assam, London based Chelsea FC announced their support to the flood-affected people of the state also.

In a Twitter post in both English and Assamese, Chelsea FC conveyed the message through the words, "Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the floods in Assam."

This comes at a time when social media has been flooded with hashtags like #NorthEastMatters in response to the alleged "negligence" shown by the mainstream media towards the devastating flood situation in Assam.

Arsenal on Friday had shared a short video clip on Instagram with the words 'we are with you' written in both English and Assamese.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Assam continues to be grim with the total death toll reaching 76 due to the monsoon deluge. Over 39 lakh people, which is almost one-tenth of the state's total population, is reported to have been affected by the floods and around 49,313 people who have been rendered homeless are taking shelter in relief camps.

Forest Department and ASDMA officials also said that at least 86 animals were killed, while 125 animals were rescued as 95 percent of the world-famous Kaziranga national park, home to more than 2,200 one-horned Indian rhinoceros, was inundated.

Meanwhile, the state is also witnessing a surge in corona cases with the latest figures showing that the number has crossed the 20,000 mark. It's a tough battle for Assam as it grapples with corona on one hand and the floods on the other.
