GUWAHATI: After the mammoth earthquake that struck Assam with 6.4 magnitudes on April 28, another six tremors were felt post midnight hours, i.e. April 29.

Among the 6 tremors, Sotipur in Assam recored one with 4.6 magnitudes at around 1:20 AM with a depth of 19 km.

Meanwhile, an earthquake of magnitude 2.7 on the Richter scale struck Assam's Sonitpur in the early hours of Thursday morning, said the National Center for Seismology which is regarded as the sixth earthquake that occurred in Sonitpur on Thursday post 12.00 AM

According to the NCS, the quake occurred at 2.38 am. The epicenter of the quake was 38 kilometers West-Northwest of Tezpur at a depth of 11 kilometers.

Earlier on Thursday, earthquakes of magnitude 2.6, 2.9, 4.6, 2.7, and 2.3 Richter Scale hit Sonitpur at 12.24 am, 1.10 am, 1.20 am, 1.41 am and 1.52 am respectively.Read more

On the other hand, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Wednesday took stock of the situation at Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district following a 6.7-magnitude earthquake that struck the state in the morning.

Sonowal visited Tarajan Bangali, a village near the epicenter of the earthquake.

"Visited the Tarajan Bangali village in Dhekiajuli, a site near the epicentre of the earthquake and took stock of the situation. The morning tremors have affected the village and neighbouring areas. We are with the people at all times. I urged everyone not to panic and stay alert," Sonowal tweeted.
