Barpeta: "The Congress-AIUDF alliance, which
got a big zero in the Bodoland Territorial Elections (BTC), will also get a big
zero in the upcoming Assam assembly elections. In the coming days, the AGP-BJP
alliance will again form the government in Dispur. This is absolutely certain."
This statement was made by Atul Bora, president of Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and
State Agriculture Minister, while attending a Jatiya Aikya Samaroh held at the
district sports association of Barpeta Legislative Council.
Describing Barpeta district as a stronghold of the Assam Movement, Bora said "Barpeta is the birthplace of the first martyr of the Assam Agitation, Swahid Khargeswar Talukdar. It is also the holy land of Ambikagiri Raichoudhury, the founder of regionalism.
However, during the long-term rule of the Congress party in Assam, the peace and harmony of the State had been lurched from time-to- time. AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal has always curbed the rights of the minority groups. If the Congress-AIUDF alliance comes to power in Assam, there will be a huge clash between the two political parties"
Bora further said, "Guru Prasad Das of Barpeta invented the vacuum brakes for railways, that is why the people of Barpeta, especially the minority groups, will put a stop to the journey of Congress-AIUDF alliance train."
He further stated that the AGP strongly believed in the Assam Accord and it considered 1971 as the base year. Keeping this in mind, the party had been working for the betterment of the people. He said that many new political parties as well as the Congress and AIUDF were criticizing and targeting the AGP for their own personal agenda.
The AGP president added that if the minority groups genuinely wanted a better future, they should boycott the Congress-AIUDF alliance. He also stated that the laying of the foundation stone of the naamghar established by Mahapurush Sankardev was done by Chandsai, who belongs to Muslim community. The naamghar represents the rich culture and diversity of Assamese people.
"AGP believes in the idealism and secularism of the State and the Barpeta district is a perfect example of it," he said. The AGP president further said that the party was still strong in many districts, including the Barpeta Sadar constituency. Minister Phani Bhushan Choudhury, AGP MLA of Barpeta constituency, Gunindra Nath Das, Kumar Dipak Das, Dr Tapan Das and other leaders were present in the meeting.
