SILCHAR: A review meeting was held under the chairmanship of Minister for Agriculture, horticulture, Animal husbandry and veterinary department Atul Bora in presence of MLA Silchar Dilip Kumar Paul, Deputy Commissioner Cachar Keerthi Jalli and officials of Agriculture, animal husbandry and veterinary department of three districts of Barak valley at the conference hall of the office of the Deputy Commissioner Cachar on Thursday.

In the meeting Minister of Agriculture, horticulture Animal husbandry and veterinary department Atul Bora asked the heads of Department of agriculture of three districts of Barak valley to brief about the project and achievements of their respective district.

District Agriculture officer Cachar LL Singh briefed through a power point presentation about the progress and achievements of ongoing schemes like RKVY, NFSM, CMSGUY, MMKSSY, soil health card, PMKSY, PM-KISAN, PMFBY, KCC, RIDF and others agriculture engineering schemes including paddy procurement on MSP on which Minister has interacted specifically and suggested needful follow up action to be taken up from the end of the department.

Minister asked about the progress of work of soil testing, quality control and input testing laboratory which is underway in all three districts of Barak valley. The minister also desired to complete the work within the shortest possible time on which Executive Engineer of agriculture department, Cachar apprised the minister about the progress made so far and probable time frame to complete the works by the assigned contractor.

District Agriculture officer Cachar L.L Singh has pointed out to develop database of the farmers which will made the things more easier and transparent to implement the departmental program with selection of beneficiaries quickly. He also apprised about the zero tillage potato cultivation which is accepted by the farmers in large numbers having minimum expenditure.

The minister suggested for construction of cold room by the interested farmers, farmer's group on which subsidy will be provided by the government as per schematic norms. District agriculture officers of Karimganj and Hailakandi also apprised the minister about the progress and achievements of all departmental schemes and programs of their respective district.

During the course of discussion the District agriculture officer, Karimganj pointed out about the paddy procurement on MSP and specified the government notification issued in this regard for the current year where the names of three districts are left out.

District agriculture officer Cachar and District agriculture officer of Hailakandi also raised the same issue before the minister.

Knowing the fact the minister has instantly took up the matter with the supply Minister and requested him to take necessary steps for inclusion of the three districts of Barak valley in the current year paddy procurement on MSP in the greater interest of the farmers of the valley. Similarly knowing the lack of infrastructure,office buildings, storage of staff at the field level the minister has discussed with departmental higher officials over phone and requested to mitigate all these problems.

Minister also asked to utilise the services of APART and ATMA staff in the normal activities of the department. Minister Bora has also reviewed the progress and achievements of Animal husbandry and veterinary department of three districts of Barak valley. During the course of discussion the Minister has telephonically instructed the state level departmental authority to issue one medical van of veterinary department to Barak valley out of total 5nos of state allocation including renovation of dispensaries of Animal husbandry and veterinary department of three districts of Barak valley. The Minister has instructed to keep close visit on the spread of African swine flu and to take preventive measures to check it effectively. Later, Minister Bora distributed the tractors and handed over the keys and other documents of tractor units to the five numbers of farmer's group under CMSGUY in presence of all concerned, stated a press release.
