LAKHIMPUR: Protest programmes against the leakage of question paper and then the subsequent cancellation of the examination on General Science paper of the ongoing HSLC examination continue in Lakhimpur district. On Tuesday, the members of the Lakhimpur district unit of All India Democratic Students’ Organisation (AIDSO) burnt the effigies of Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu and Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) Chairman Ramesh Kumar Jain in connection with the issue.

The organization demonstrated the protest programme at the Adarsha Bazaar premises. The demonstrators denounced the question paper leak event and chanted slogans calling for the perpetrators to receive exemplary punishment throughout the march. According to the organisation, the HSLC is one of the major and crucial exams for students because it allows them to set their life goals and take their first board exam. Hence, no one should play immoral games with the pupils or their future, according to the group.

“The loopholes which led to the leakage of the question paper prove that the Education Department of the State is completely neutral to the future of the students. Corruption has weakened the department. Such incidents impact upon the psyche of the students negatively,” the organization expressed.

By initiating the protest programme, AIDSO demanded the Government of Assam to launch a probe into the issue and to take legal action against all involved in the leakage of the question paper.

Meanwhile, the members of the All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) in Lakhimpur district continued protest. On Tuesday, as per instruction issued from the central committee, the activists of the Lakhimpur district body of the organization hanged the effigy of the Education Minister Dr Ranoj Pegu, Secondary Education Board of Assam (SEBA) Chairman Ramesh Kumar Jain, Controller of Examination NJ Sarmah in North Lakhimpur town alleging their comprehensive failure with regard to smooth conduct of the HSLC examination.

While leading the demonstration, AASU Lakhimpur district general secretary Swaraj Sankar Gogoi came down heavily against the Education Minister and the SEBA Chairman and the Controller of Examination over the issue and demanded their step down. He also demanded punishment to the culprits involved. The AASU members from various regional committees under Lakhimpur district unit took part in the protest programme.
