GOLAGHAT: Finance and Women and Child Welfare Minister Ajanta Neog on Friday inaugurated three water supply schemes in Golaghat panchayat and one in Kaliapani panchayat under Jal Jeevan Abhiyan under Golaghat East Development Zone, Padumani. She inaugurated the water supply schemes at Leketachuk, Tarfat Ahom gaon and Sonari gaon in Golaghat panchayat and Kaphhuating Bagan water supply scheme in Kaliapani panchayat. All these water supply schemes will provide piped water to more than 700 families.

Speaking at the inauguration of the Leketachuk water supply scheme at a cost of Rs 1 crore 20 lakh, the minister said the government has implemented the Jal Jeevan Abhiyan scheme to ensure clean water to the people.

The success of the water supply schemes constructed under this mission and how sustainable they are, will depend on the consumer committees and the people. She said every family should think of this scheme as a people’s scheme and urged everyone not to waste water. She also urged the water committees to review the quality of water every 15 days or every month and whether every household is getting water and whether the village panchayats are paying electricity bills on time.

She said, “After 75 years of independence, an area has received four water supply schemes and it is the responsibility of the people to ensure that these schemes are not destroyed. She said the schemes will definitely be long-term if you think of a public resource as your own.”

The scheme will benefit 150 households in the area. She then inaugurated the Tarfat Ahom Gaon Water Supply Scheme constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore 33 thousand. The scheme will provide water to 199 families in Ahom Chowk, Member Chowk, Gohai Chowk and Sonari Chowk areas.
