AJYCP demands President’s Rule in Manipur, stages protest

LAKHIMPUR: The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) has demanded immediate imposition of President’s Rule in Manipur to restore peace and normalcy.

In support of the demand, the organization initiated Statewide demonstration on Thursday. The Lakhimpur district committee, led by president Hiranya Dutta and general secretary Diganta Bhuyan, staged the protest in front of office of the Deputy Commissioners in North Lakhimpur town. Lakhimpur AJYCP strongly condemned the group clash in Manipur.

By initiating the demonstration, Lakhimpur AJYCP submitted a memorandum to the President of India through the Deputy Commissioner of the district. Through the memorandum, the organization urged upon the President of India to dissolute the Government of Manipur, led by N Biren Singh, and to impose President’s Rule in the interest of restoring peace and order.

Through the same memorandum, Lakhimpur AJYCP asserted that hundreds of innocent people had already lost their lives in the recent group clashes in Manipur. “Manipur has recently become a killing ground for humanity due to extreme human right violations. The activism of politically-drunk armed militants has further complicated the situation. Meanwhile, the N Biren Singh government in Manipur has miserably failed in maintaining peace and order in the State. We, the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad, expressed grave concern over the homicide and N Biren Singh’s government in the neighbouring Manipur and demanded the imposition of President’s Rule in the State by dissolving the N Biren Singh government in the interest of restoring peace and order in Manipur,” the memorandum added.

During the course of demonstration, Lakhimpur AJYCP criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi in connection with the situation of Manipur. The organization alleged that the Prime Minister had turned a deaf year to the State, ‘though he termed the Northeast States, including Sikkim, as Asta Lakshmi’.
