AJYCP stages dharna in Lakhimpur, demanding scrapping of CAA and EIA Draft

LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur district unit of Asom Jatiyatabadi YuvaChatra Parishad (AJYCP) once again took to the streets, vehemently opposing the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019 (CAA) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) -2020 Draft.

Reiterating its demand to scrap the CAA and the EIA Draft immediately, the activists of the organization staged dharna in front of the Lakhimpur Deputy Commissioner's office on Tuesday. Leading the protest, Lakhimpur unit AJYCP president MondeepNeog and general secretary in-charge JagatSaikia became vocal against the controversial CAA and the EIA Draft. AJYCP central committee assistant general secretary Sourabh Das also criticized the BJP-led government at the Centre for adopting the CAA and the EIA Draft.

Reiterating its demand to scrap the CAA shouting various slogans demanding the scrapping of the Act and the Draft and flaying the BJP-led governments at the Centre and in the State regarding the issues. Later, the organization submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister NarendraModi through the Deputy Commissioner of the district. In the memorandum, the organization stated that it would always oppose granting citizenship to Hindu foreigners under the provisions of CAA and never accept the Act.

Dibrugarh: AsomJatiyatabadi Yuba ChatraParishad (AJYCP) Dibrugarh district committee, in support of their various demands, staged dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner's (DC) office on Tuesday. The demands, amongst others, were withdrawal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) -2020 Draft, and introduction of inter-State Inner Line Permit.

Secretary of AJYCP Dibrugarh District Committee, PriyabrataGohain told the media persons at the dharna site that AJYCP, along with the people of Assam, had been opposing CAA since its introduction in the Parliament. "The demography of the State will be changed drastically if Hindu Bengali citizens of other country, by virtue of this Act, get citizenship in the State. Implementation of CAA will certainly affect the life and properties of Indian citizens living in Assam," said Gohain and demanded repeal of CAA soon

Lashing out at the Union Government's move to implement EIA 2020 Draft, AJYCP Dibrugarh district committee secretary, Gohain reiterated AJYCP's commitment for protection of the State's forest and its biodiversity and demanded scrapping of the draft EIA.

AJYCP later submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister of India through the Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh.
