DOOMDOOMA: The two day-long 10th biennial conference of the Doomdooma Regional Committee of Assam Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) got underway at Doomdooma Town Field on Saturday morning with the hoisting of flag and smriti tarpan by Prabhakar Sharma and Kalyanjyoti Moran, the president and the secretary respectively of the Doomdooma Regional Committee of AJYCP.
Another significant event of the day was inauguration of the newly-constructed office building of Doomdooma Branch of AJYCP. It was inaugurated jointly by the AJYCP president Palash Changmai and general secretary Ratul Borgohain.
After the inauguration of the stage by prominent journalist and the president of Doomdooma Press Club Anuj Kalita, the felicitation and award presentation programme was held thereafter with former vice principal of Doomdooma College Beena Devi Bordoloi in the chair. The programme was inaugurated by the AJYCP assistant secretary Surajit Moran. Palash Changmai and Ratul Borgohain attended the programme as chief guests while Dr. Amorjit Saikia, Principal of Bir Raghav Moran Government Model College, Doomdooma inaugurated the souvenir ‘Jagrata Prahari’ published on this occasion. AJYCP vice-president Kon Gogoi and several other central and state committee leaders of AJYCP attended the programme as the guests of honour.
In this programme, AJYCP awarded six leading persons of Doomdooma for their contributions to various walks of life. In the field of journalism Abhijit Khataniar was awarded with the ‘Pankaj Sonowal Memorial Journalism Award - 2023’ for his service in the field for more than three decades. The award was instituted by the Doomdooma Regional Committee of AJYCP in memory of its former member late Pankaj Sonowal.
On the other hand, Raktim Hazarika, Headmaster of Rangajan ME School was awarded with Jonak Singh Gurung Memorial Teacher Award; veteran Bihu dance artiste Durlabha Moran was awarded with Nirmali Konwar Memorial Cultural Award; prominent literary organizer and writer Deben Deka was awarded with Salil Neog Memorial Literary Award; progressive farmer Hemanta Bhumij was awarded with Dulu Sonowal Memorial Agriculture Award and noted sportsperson Dronakanta Moran will be awarded with Jonak Singh Gurung Memorial Sports Award. The awards carried a phulam gamocha, a japi, a souvenir, a citation and a cash of Rs.5000 each. Moreover, two noted physician and social activists of Doomdooma Dr. Deben Chandra Bora and Dr. Pranab Jyoti Deka were accorded special felicitation in the programme for their remarkable service to the society.
