KOKRAJHAR: Expressing anguish over the inclusion of his name as simple member of the interim council of Kamatapur Autonomous Council (KAC), the president of All Koch Rajbongshi Students' Union (AKRSU), Arun Kr. Ray said that he would tender his resignation letter to the Chief Minister within two days.

The Government of Assam announced the list of interim executive council of KAC on February 25 with Gakul Barman, general secretary of AKRSU, as Chief Executive Member while ignoring the name of the president.

In a press meet held at Kokrajhar on Friday, the president of AKRSU, Arun Kr. Ray said that the inclusion of his name as mere member of the council was not an insult to the AKRSU but an insult to the community as a whole. He also said that they did not fight for getting seat in the council but for the protection of community. He further said that he would not remain as member but would resign as council member within two days.

Ray said that minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was the main man behind this game. He said that Sarma was playing divide-and-rule policy with Koch Rajbongshis and he was the person to block the Koch Rajbongshis from inclusion in the ST list. The then Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured to include Koch Rajbongshis in the ST list without affecting the interest of existing STs and formed a five-member committee but nothing had happened till date, he said, adding that Himanta Biswa Sarma would never accord ST status to them for which the time had come to give the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a fitting reply in the forthcoming assembly election.

Ray said that in 2014, the BJP assured to give ST status to Rajbongshis within six months if it came to power but even after six long years they had forgotten their promise. He warned that the Koch Rajbongshis would boycott minister Sarma in Rajbongshi dominated areas and go against the BJP in the forthcoming assembly election.
