Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has said that it is expected that al Qaeda will not understand the significance of uniforms but Indian Muslims will and respect the decision of the Karnataka High Court over the Hijab row.
Sarma's statement comes after Al Qaeda chief Ayman Al Zawahiri in a video praised Muskan Khan, the Karnataka girl, who raised the slogan of 'Allah Hu Akbar' when a group of right-wing members surrounded her and started shouting 'Jai Shree Ram.'
The video clip of Zawahiri was shared by a spokesperson of the terror outfits As-Sahab media on Tuesday 5th April.
In the video, the Al Qaeda leader spoke about the Hijab ban in schools and colleges and asked Indian Muslims to fight against the perceived attack on Islam.
''Indian Muslims should intellectually fight using media and on the battlefield using weapons,'' he told reporters at the sidelines of a programme here.
However, Assam's chief minister responding to the matter said that the Muslims in India will never respond to such remarks by Al Qaeda or get involved in a Hijab row after Karnataka High Court gave a clear judgment over the issue.
CM Sarma also said India is a democracy and Karnataka HC has a clear verdict that students are not expected to wear hijab or any such clothes in educational institutions.
''If one wears hijab others will also wear something else and then schools and colleges will become a place to display religious clothes. How education can continue in such a condition,'' Sarma added.
Taking a dig at the Al Qaeda chief's statement, he said that uniforms in the educational institutions ensure equality for every student but Al Qaeda will not understand this but Indian Muslims will.
The senior BJP leader also stated that Indian Muslims will respect the basic principles in the schools and colleges of India.
